Sometimes there are stories that absolutely bring us to our knees. This is one of those stories.
A few weeks ago, Eric Schmitt-Matzen, who works as Santa at various events, was asked to visit a five-year-old boy. The boy was dying and did not have the strength to visit Santa elsewhere.
Schmitt-Matzen obliged and of course went to see the young boy. When he got there, the boy was weaker than he had imagined. Schmitt-Matzen began talking to the boy about how he was his number-one elf, which really made the boy perk up! Santa also gave him a present, which added a little more twinkle to his eye.
It was then that the boy gave Santa a big hug. He wrapped his tiny arms around the big Santa and embraced the moment. But then, Schmitt-Matzen realized that the boy’s body had become lifeless. He had died in Santa’s arms.
Although this story is truly heartbreaking, it’s important to remember that God has prepared a place in Heaven for each of us.
Revelation 21: 1-4 tells us, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
